Q. Looking for T1-11 paneling with the standard 12" center but i need the grooves to be 3/4" wide verses the standard of 1-1/2" to match existing 1960's Lap and gap siding. If I could find T1-11 x 5/8" thick that the grooves have not been milled, it may be a possibility to get the smaller grooves milled locally. The house being restored the cost to replace all would be prohibitive...got any ideas? Pictures can be sent if needed. --- Martin

A. I had a job once that required verticle lap siding with grooves on 2" centers and 1/2" wide to match an existing house. At that time I was able to pick up some that had the right spacing between boards but no grooves on the face. I set up a table saw with a dado blade and added the additional grooves on. Kind of a lot of work, but at the time it was the best option for me. (See pictures below) You could do the same if with T1-11, but it would be hard to handle.

If you are willing to get the additional work done on blank sheets you should be able to find the material you need. Call a few local lumber yards (the kind that normally supply builders) and see what they can get. Depending on how much you need, they can order from the mill. It should be pretty easy to get blank sheets this way, or you can probably order it with the grooves you need. This is also a good way to get oversize sheets, 9' or 10' long if you need it. Of course, special orders like this increase the cost, but it may save money in the long run.
