Q. What do you call those doohickeys that keep the insulation from blocking the vents in my bird blocking? The 12 inch insulation I am installing will block these at the wall edges of my gambrel roof trusses.

A. They are called insulation baffles. You can find them in a variety of styles and materials, or you can make your own. The simplest are just corrugated cardboard that is folded up on each side so that it can be stapled to the rafters. This provides an area where the insulation is held away from the roof sheathing to allow air to flow in at the bird block vents and up by convection to exit at the ridge or other roof vents.
