Q. We are insulating with R-38 12" insulation that comes in 4 foot by 22+" bales of 8. My question is “When the insulation impacts my electric wires - is it ok to just split the fiberglass and let it wrap around them?” I am concerned about over heating. This is in an engineered truss area. There is plenty of cool air above, but the wires would be buried in the insulation.

A. This will not be a problem. The way that you are thinking of placing the insulation is the way to go. This will avoid squeezing the fiberglass together and thereby lowering its effectiveness.

Properly installed electrical wiring will not generate enough heat to cause any problems. If the wiring was to get too hot, the circuit breaker would trip, but this will not happen because the wiring is buried in insulation.
